Winter Break – Energy Conservation

As we leave our offices, classrooms and dorms for winter break, let’s take a moment to ensure we conserve energy while we’re away:
• Turn off all lights.
• Turn off power strips and unplug all appliances and phantom loads such as computers, monitors, printers, copiers, TV’s, DVD players, gaming consoles, stereos, speakers, chargers, microwaves, coffeepots, etc.
• Close all windows.
• Turn down the heat where you have control (Physical Plant recommends setting thermostats back to 60 degrees or #2 on the manual knobs of radiators).
• Empty and unplug refrigerators, especially in dorm rooms.
A few moments to power down all our gadgets and lights and set our heat back will result in significant financial savings and carbon emission reductions while we enjoy our time away with family and friends. Your responsible energy habits over break and everyday help Allegheny move towards our strategic goal of climate neutrality by the year 2020.
