Apply to Be a Peer Writing Consultant

Posted on January 24, 2019 | Filed under Archive

This post has been archived. Information below may be out of date and/or relate to a past event.

The Director of Writing seeks applications from students interested in joining the writing consultant staff. Consultants work with their peers on specific assignments as well as general writing concerns, and thus develop hands-on teaching experience. Most importantly, consultants help empower others to discover their potential as writers. We encourage applications from all majors and those who are still undeclared. We also encourage speakers of languages other than English to apply.

Required qualifications include an open mind, a willingness to learn, and an interest in helping others become stronger, more confident writers; a solid academic record, strong interpersonal skills, and a sense of humor are advantageous. Applicants must be able to commit to staffing at least one two-hour shift per week, meeting with a “matched” writer for at least one hour per week, and attending a one-hour professional development meeting, held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

To apply, please complete the application form and submit a brief personal statement along with a writing sample to Professor Hart at ahart@allegheny.edu. The deadline for applications is Monday, February 18.
