Allegheny Black Studies and Dance & Movement Studies will host Professor Thomas DeFrantz in Fall 2019 to teach BLKST/DMS 191. The course will be an experiential introduction to dance as political resistance in the African diaspora. Content includes Black Performance Theory and explorations in Black dance. A solo performance by Professor Thomas DeFrantz during the residency will be examined as a current example of contemporary critical performance. Classes will meet the week of October 27, 2019 in the evening for two hours. Students will receive one credit C/NC based on attendance and participation, and the course will count toward elective credit for the DMS minor. Students can register through WebAdvisor.
