Call for 2020-2021 Allegheny Listens Common Read Recommendations

This post has been archived. Information below may be out of date and/or relate to a past event.

The Allegheny Listens Common Reading Experience is designed to introduce new students to academic life at Allegheny and our community’s shared commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion prior to the start of classes. Before the start of each academic year, all first-year and transfer students read a book that has been thoughtfully reviewed and selected by a committee of faculty, staff, and students. We are now accepting recommendations for the 2020-2021 academic year common read.

The book should fit least one (ideally multiple) of the criteria listed below:

*Reflect the Allegheny community’s shared commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
*Invite critical thought about and engagement with the Allegheny College Statement of Community
*Promote intellectual, moral, and social development
*Encourage personal and civic responsibility
*Stimulate analysis of current social justice issues from varied cultural perspectives
*Lend itself well to discussion and/or integration in a variety of contexts (e.g., multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary conversations, co-curricular programming)

Recommendations for the 2020-2021 academic year common read will be accepted until Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Submit your recommendations using this form–please submit only one recommendation per form. Questions or concerns may be emailed to Kristin Dukes (kdukes@alleghney.edu).
