On the evening of Saturday, October 12, the Drake Well Museum & Park will be conducting lantern-led tours of Historic Pithole City, Northwest Pennsylvania’s most undersung 19th-century oil boomtown. Guides in period dress will lead groups on a 90-minute walking tour, and share fact-filled stories of the people and a town that existed for only 500 days. The History Department has seven seats available – first come, first serve – for this event if anyone on campus over fall break would like to attend. The History Department will purchase tickets for all those who attend, but an accurate count is important for advanced ticket purchase. Please note that the tours run rain or shine and include walking on hills. Also, it is recommended that guests bring a flashlight, wear comfortable shoes, and dress appropriate for the day’s weather conditions. If you would like to attend this event, please email Professor Brian Miller at bmiller2@allegheny.edu by noon on Friday, October 4.
