The Director of Faculty Development invites faculty members to participate in a Teaching Circle this coming spring. This Teaching Circle is designed to provide support to faculty in their teaching and professional lives. Twelve faculty will meet each Wednesday from 12:20 to 1:15 p.m. throughout the semester; participants will commit to attend each meeting unless they are ill or traveling. Lunch will be provided. There is no agenda; the participants simply come to discuss whatever issues are most pressing in their professional lives. Participants will agree to keep discussions in the group confidential.

Participant responses to past teaching circles indicate that faculty have found this experience highly valuable and sustaining. This spring’s Teaching Circle will be facilitated by Mark Ams from the Chemistry Department and is offered with support from the Provost’s Office. If you are interested in participating in this group, please send an e-mail to Mark at by December 13. We will accept members into the group on a first-come, first-served basis, though we may manage the membership to assure that there are both tenured and untenured faculty in the group. If you have any questions, please contact Mark or Catharina Coenen (
