The International Education office in the Allegheny Gateway invites you to a free Zoom Webinar: Immigration, COVID-19, and the US Economy on June 25, noon to 1 pm EST, with key speaker Alfredo Corchado Jiménez. This event is co-sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh and the Columbus Council on World Affairs.

Corchado is an award-winning Mexican-American journalist, specializing in Mexican-American affairs, mainly at the border (he spoke on campus at Allegheny in October 2019). His role as Mexico Border Correspondent and chief of the Dallas Morning News provides him with valuable insight on the impact of COVID-19 on human migration, immigration politics, and the hidden role of immigrants in US society that many don’t see. In a time where COVID-19 has practically halted human migration, Corchado and the Columbus Council will discuss how COVID-related border policies and the toll that COVID-19 has placed on the country’s food packing industry go hand in hand, and provide a deeper look at this issue, the impact on our food supply, and what it actually means to be an essential worker.
