Attention: Phishing Attempts

Posted on July 26, 2020 | Filed under Archive

LITS has received numerous reports of recent phishing attempts from the Allegheny community. The most common message claims to be coming from President Link, but a quick review will show that the originating email is not from the allegheny.edu domain, which should flag it as phishing. This is a good reminder to be cautious when receiving unexpected emails. If you get a message you think is phishing/spam you should:
*Follow up with the purported sender by other means (phone or separate email) if you want to verify it is phishing.
*Refrain from clicking on any links in the email.
*Report it as spam/phishing using the Gmail tools.
You can learn more about phishing on the LITS website. Please do not hesitate to contact the InfoDesk at infodesk@allegheny.edu to report phishing attempts or obtain more information. LITS always encourages safe account practices and would encourage you to visit the LITS website to change your password if you ever feel that your account credentials have been compromised.
