The tradition is before the Lunar New Year, East Asians and Southeast Asians thoroughly clean their house to make way for incoming good luck and prosperity. As the Lunar New Year approaches in February, we invite the campus community members to make a Tik Tok video about how you celebrate the important holiday in your country or the place you currently live. You could video your family’s reunion and introduce yourself, special foods you eat for the festival, Lunar New Year decorations in your local community, zodiac signs, new year resolutions, artworks, makeup…etc. It should be about 60 seconds, accompanied with soundtrack and editing, and great if you can wear Allegheny gear in it. Please remember to follow safety protocols/preventive measures when creating the video. We welcome Tik Tok videos from different places and countries, as we believe that during the pandemic, it is all the more important for us to connect with one another. During the Lunar New Year Celebration, we will host an online poll between Feb. 15-19 to determine the 6 best Tik Tok videos and the winners will receive a gift. Please contact Runqi Deng in the Department of World Language and Cultures with any questions and submit your videos by emailing deng01@allegheny.edu by 8 p.m. on Sunday, February. Subject Line: #Gators Lunar New Year. The celebration is sponsored by the Department of World Language and Cultures, the International Education Office, and the IDEAS Center.
