Applications are being accepted for the 2021 Wayne Merrick Scholarship in International Studies. The award provides Allegheny College students majoring in International Studies with financial assistance to study abroad in academic year 2021-22. Applications should consist of the following:
1. A narrative description of study abroad plans, curricular and co-curricular activities and how study abroad will foster these.
2. A copy of the applicant’s college transcript (it need not be official–screenshot OK).
Application can be made for study abroad at any time during academic year 2021-22, whether fall or spring semester, or full academic year. Completed applications should be submitted via email to Professor Laura Reeck [lreeck@allegheny.edu] by Monday, April 12, at 4:30 p.m.

Recipients will be selected by the International Studies Steering Committee. Application quality, academic standing, and financial need will be taken into account. The dollar amount and number of awards is to be determined. Note that funds will not be awarded to the student in cash; they will be applied to the student’s financial aid account.

Due to the global COVID pandemic, the Department of State has most countries at an elevated level “Travel Advisory.” The International Education Office will continue to monitor the situation in all study away locations with input from the staff and faculty of the program. At any point should the conditions worsen and become increasingly dangerous, we reserve the right to require that you defer/cancel your study away plans. Please note that this notification could come as late as just before departure. If such a notification is made, we will give you the option of deferring your off campus study plans to another semester or perhaps choosing another program to participate in. If you have any questions about this process or would like to discuss this further with our office, please make an appointment to meet with International Education at any time.
