Commencement Update for Faculty and Staff

Over 310 students are currently scheduled to participate in the Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2021 on May 22. Please see the Commencement website for up-to-date information on the ceremonies. To balance health and safety needs with celebration, we will be holding three separate Commencement ceremonies, at 9 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. Because of limited capacity, faculty and staff are not expected and should not attend the ceremonies, so that we can stay within capacity limits and maximize seating for students and their families and loved ones. Faculty and staff who wish to do so are invited to watch the Commencement on livestream. However, we have planned a version of the All-College Reception that traditionally takes place immediately after Commencement. At 10:15 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:45 p.m., students and their guests will have the “opportunity to say goodbye to buildings and people.” Weather permitting, available faculty and staff should meet outside of their buildings, following physical distancing protocol. If we are forced inside due to weather, faculty should meet guests in classrooms (maintaining posted occupancy limits and physical distancing). Volunteers will be stationed at the entrances/exits to monitor the capacity for each building. We hope that this reception will provide everyone with the opportunity to spend a few special moments celebrating a very important occasion here at Allegheny College. We hope that faculty and staff will be able to participate in the All-College Reception, wearing academic regalia, so that students can have as much of the traditional Commencement experience as possible under the circumstances. Face coverings will be required at all times. This includes when taking photos. No physical contact is permitted — sorry, air hugs only.
