The Law & Policy Program announces open enrollment for ENVSC 390: Economic Growth and the Environment. This one credit (C/NC, 10 L&P points) seminar, offered in collaboration with the ESS Department, features visiting scholar Jon Erickson (University of Vermont) and is open to all students with permission of the instructor(s). Please contact Professor Bensel (tbensel@allegheny.edu) or Professor Swann-Quinn (jswannquinn@allegheny.edu) by Tuesday, September 21 to enroll.

Seminar description: The unquestioned pursuit of economic growth as the primary goal of public policy has taken an enormous toll on the natural world. Continual pursuit of economic growth using the same models and approaches that we have been following defies any understanding of the concept of “sustainability.” So why continue to pursue economic growth as a policy goal? Can economic growth ever be sustainable? What would a “sustainable economy” look like?
