Auditions for Machinal by Sophie Treadwell
Play direction by Rachel Hoey – Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre
An episodic journey of a young woman’s experience struggling through a suffocating world, Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal invites audiences to examine Helen’s search for love and freedom amidst an emotional state of entrapment. This 1920’s expressionist drama mechanically reimagines the events leading up to the murder trial of Ruth Synder. Machinal begs the question: “Is anything for me?”
