The Office of URSCA announces a funding opportunity for students seeking to participate in the collaborative Student-Faculty Research (SFR) Program during Summer 2024. This program offers students and faculty the opportunity to work together on a research project of mutual interest.
This program is open to all continuing students (i.e., not May 2024 graduates) in good academic standing across all academic disciplines. The proposed student project must be conducted in collaboration with an Allegheny faculty member and the proposed summer project cannot be directly related to the student’s senior project (i.e., the work resulting from the summer research cannot count as the senior project itself).
However, summer projects can serve as preparation for the senior project. Please visit this website to view the possible start and end dates of this summer program. This program is not available for independent studies, summer internships, or assistantships.
Students should work with summer faculty mentors to complete their proposal. Students can submit completed proposals to the online application portal when it opens in the Spring 2024 semester. More information about the entire application process can be found here.
Students whose proposals are selected to be funded can receive an award of up to $4000 for an 8-week research program (pro-rated for fewer weeks). Room and Board will be billed at $60/day for students participating in this program and staying in campus housing. Students whose proposals are funded will receive an additional award that covers 50% ($30/day) of the billed Room and Board charges for on-campus housing. Students are responsible for paying the remaining 50% of their billed Room and Board charges (i.e., $30/day).
Prof. Matthew Venesky, Director of the Office of URSCA, will be offering a workshop at the beginning of the Spring 2024 semester to provide an overview of the summer research programming on campus, tips on writing a competitive proposal, and the steps that you’ll need to take to complete the application for summer research.
Please email Prof. Venesky at mvenesky@allegheny.edu with any questions.
