Single Voice Reading Series Continues with Editor of Southwest Review

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Sept. 28, 2009 – Willard Spiegelman—editor-in-chief of The Southwest Review, the third oldest continuously published literary quarterly in the United States—will read from his works on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. in Quigley Hall auditorium on the Allegheny College campus. The program, which is free and open to the public, is part of the college’s Single Voice Reading Series.

The Hughes Professor of English at Southern Methodist University, Spiegelman is a regular contributor to the leisure and arts section of the Wall Street Journal and the author of five books of literary criticism. “Seven Pleasures: Essays on Ordinary Happiness” is his first non-academic book.

The Single Voice Reading Series is sponsored by the creative writing program of the Allegheny College Department of English. The series will continue with David Baker on Oct. 21; Julie Otsuka on Oct. 28; Geoffrey Brock and Padma Viswanathan on Feb. 11, 2010; and Robert B. Hass and Keith Taylor on April 22, 2010.
