Allegheny College Music Faculty to Present Trumpet and Bassoon Recital

MEADVILLE, Pa. — Feb. 11, 2011 — Allegheny College music faculty Jennifer Dearden and Julie Hepler will perform works on the trumpet and bassoon, respectively, in a recital on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel on the Allegheny campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

Dearden and Hepler will present selections by Johann Hummel, Alexandre Tansman and other composers. Allegheny music professors Alec Chien and Lowell Hepler will serve as accompanists.

An assistant professor of music, Dearden is a member of the River City Brass, which performs several dozen concerts each year in the Pittsburgh area and around the country. She has also performed with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Erie Chamber Orchestra and Dave Stevens Big Band. Dearden coaches the brass chamber ensembles at Allegheny and teaches trumpet as well as courses in music theory and appreciation.

An instructor of music, Julie Hepler is principal bassoonist of the Lake Erie Ballet Orchestra and the River Cities Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed with the Baton Rouge, West Virginia and Youngstown Symphonies as well as the Buffalo, Erie and Louisiana Philharmonics. At Allegheny she teaches courses in music history and appreciation in addition to clarinet, saxophone, oboe and bassoon.
