Allegheny Music Major to Present Senior Recital Feb. 26

MEADVILLE, Pa.  – Feb. 21, 2011 – Allegheny College music major Christopher Voss will present his senior recital at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, in Ford Memorial Chapel on the Allegheny campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

A bass-baritone, Voss will sing several arias and art songs in German, French, Italian and English, including three arias from the rarely performed Charles Gounod opera “Philémon et Baucis.” Allegheny music instructor Wendy Plyler will accompany Voss on piano.

Voss performed last summer with the Bay View Music Festival in Michigan, singing the role of Sarastro in “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute) by Mozart. He also sang “Quoniam tu solus sanctus” from Bach’s “Mass in B Minor” and several scenes from operas, including “Don Giovanni” and “Candide.”

At Allegheny Voss has sung in two solo recitals as well as one duet and one trio recital. In addition, he performed with Allegheny music instructor Vicki Jamison at her recital last October and sang “Why do the Nations” from Handel’s “Messiah” with Allegheny’s Civic Orchestra in fall 2009. Voss also will perform a solo with the college’s Chamber Choir at a concert on April 2.
