Shen & Bones Performance Group To Present Free Concert and Master Class

Sept. 26, 2013 – The Shen & Bones Performance Group will perform a free concert, titled “Betweens,” at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, in the Montgomery Performance Space at Allegheny College.

The evening’s dance-theater works will incorporate modern dance, text, music and Butoh, a Japanese avant garde improvisational dance-theater form that is known for its raw physicality, meditative movement and surrealist imagery. Shen & Bones artistic director Lani Weissbach seeks to create a unique blend of performance techniques that will offer audiences a rich and thought-provoking live theater experience.

The mood of the concert ranges from humorous to somber and is intended for mature audiences (similar to a PG-13 rating.)

In addition to Lani Weissbach, Shen & Bones is made up of Keegan Boulton, Jay Hanes, Kerrylee Hinkson, Doug Lodge and Laura Swedenborg.

Weissbach will present a Butoh master class, also free and open to the public, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Montgomery. Call the Dance and Movement Studies Program at 814-332-2813 for more information or to make reservations for the class and/or the concert.

The performance is sponsored by the college’s Dance and Movement Studies Program and is supported by the William Beazell Fund.
