Punkin’ Chunkin’ with ES 110

Sometimes, if you want to make your event a smashing success, you have to break a couple pumpkins. With a sledgehammer.

As part of Allegheny College’s October Energy Challenge, Kristen Locy ’18’s Environmental Science 110 class was split into groups. Their task: to creatively spread the message of conservation. Locy’s group found a teachable moment at the intersection of compost and smashing things, and about thirty students participated over the course of almost two hours.

Several pumpkins were harmed in the making of the video. The resulting pumpkin carnage was gathered up by Locy’s group and will be composted for fertilizer.
