Students Present Papers at Russian Symposium and Phi Alpha Theta PA-West Regional Conference

Robert (Trey) Durst III ’16 and Quintin Peacock ’17 presented papers in early March at the Russian Symposium and Phi Alpha Theta PA-West Regional Conference, both held at Mercyhurst University. Trey discussed his work “Sergei Eisenstein: Individual Revolution versus Paternal Authority,” which explored the Soviet filmmaker’s views on authority to suggest that his memoir and cinematic portrayal of the Bolshevik Revolution expressed a vision of personal microcosmic revolutions. Quintin’s paper “Photography and Our Civil War Memory” explored the multiple meanings of photography and argued that historians must dissociate themselves from their current perceptions and focus on the mindset of the typical citizen during the Civil War period, in order to gain full insight into the past.
