Allegheny Listed in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2017

July 13, 2016 – Allegheny College is featured in the 33rd edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2017, a reference book for prospective students and their families that describes life on campus at the country’s best colleges and universities.

The Fiske Guide to Colleges publishes detailed profiles, including interviews with students, for more than 300 four-year schools. The guide is fully updated and expanded every year, and, according to USA Today, is the most authoritative source of information for college-bound students and their parents.

“Allegheny is honored to be included in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, recognizing our national reputation for excellence,” said Dr. Ron Cole, provost and dean of the college. “As part of the college search process, we welcome students and families to visit campus where they can discover firsthand how an Allegheny education empowers students for successful outcomes and to make a difference in the world.”

Prospective students and their parents can attend open houses at Allegheny to explore the college and speak with current students, faculty and staff. The Office of Admissions will host open houses on July 22 and Aug. 19. The events start at 8:45 a.m. and run to about 2:30 p.m. The sessions include campus tours, opportunities to meet with faculty and attend a panel discussion. Visitors can do an early tour at 8 a.m.

The Fiske Guide describes Allegheny as “a down-to-earth” liberal arts school “boasting a rich history of academic excellence in an intimate setting. Administrators here understand the importance of providing students with real-world experience to complement their classroom work.”

The guide also says: “Students praise Allegheny’s faculty members for their passion, knowledge and accessibility: ‘The quality of instruction is outstanding. If I have questions, professors will sit down with me and work through a problem or concept until I understand it.’”
