Allegheny College Introduces Top 10 Percent Admission Program for Western Pennsylvania High School Students

Allegheny College has introduced a program through which students graduating in the top 10 percent of their class from western Pennsylvania high schools will be automatically offered admission to Allegheny upon completion of their application for admittance.

As further recognition of their academic achievement, students admitted through the Top 10 Percent Admissions Program will also qualify for Allegheny’s highest and most prestigious Trustee Scholarship, which would be awarded at the level of $38,000 per year. Trustee Scholarships renew automatically for up to four years of full-time enrollment at Allegheny or in an Allegheny-sponsored off-campus study program.

“Allegheny is ranked among the top colleges in the nation, and we are committed to inspiring even more of the area’s best and brightest students to take advantage of the first-rate education we offer,” said Cornell B. LeSane II, Allegheny senior vice president for enrollment and dean of admissions. “While the College is proud of its international reputation with representation from 47 states and 70 countries, we also acknowledge our responsibility to students in our region, and we are very proud of the talents, ambition and promise they bring.”

To qualify for the program, students must:

  • Place in the top 10 percent of their graduating high school class
  • Attend a high school in western Pennsylvania (defined by ZIP codes in the range 15001 to 16749)
  • Submit a completed application for admission and supporting credentials by Dec. 1
  • Be in good standing within their school community
  • Matriculate in fall 2021

If high schools do not rank their classes, GPA distribution charts can be used, if provided. Similarly, for schools that do not rank, the Office of Admissions will accept information directly from a school administrator.

Consideration for the Top 10 Percent Admissions Program is automatic when students apply for admission under Early Decision I or II, Early Action and Regular Decision methods before Dec. 1. Award recipients will be notified via mail regarding their eligibility. Students must be registered as full-time, degree-seeking students to qualify for this scholarship.
