U.S. News & World Report has again named Allegheny College one of the top 100 national liberal arts colleges in the country, highlighting the college’s commitment to innovation, value and undergraduate teaching and research.

In annual rankings released Sept. 13, U.S. News & World Report featured Allegheny among a select group of schools with stellar examples of first-year experiences, undergraduate research/creative projects, senior capstone experiences and writing in the disciplines.

“​​This national recognition by U.S. News & World Report underscores Allegheny College’s commitment to providing an innovative education that challenges each student to be more than just their major and to explore multiple disciplines by working closely with faculty mentors and engaging in research from their first year on campus through their Senior Project,” Allegheny President Hilary L. Link said.

Allegheny was recognized in the:

• Top 20 schools with stellar examples of undergraduate research/creative projects among all colleges and universities in the U.S. Allegheny ranked No. 6 among national liberal arts schools included in that category.
• Top 25 national liberal arts colleges in the most innovative schools category, based on innovative enhancements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities
• Top 40 national liberal arts colleges for best undergraduate teaching
• Top 45 best value national liberal arts college, based on both academic quality and cost

The U.S. News & World Report ranking of top liberal arts schools is based on several key measures of quality, including graduation and retention rates, assessment of excellence by peers, social mobility, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

Schools included in the national liberal arts college category focus almost exclusively on undergraduate education and award at least 50 percent of their degrees in the arts and sciences.

​​This recognition is the latest in a string of accolades that highlight Allegheny’s quality and value:

• Washington Monthly named Allegheny one of the top 30 best liberal arts colleges in the U.S. in its 2021 annual rankings, which recognize not only what colleges do for their students but also what colleges are doing for the country.
• Colleges That Change Lives, a leading national voice in the field of college choice, has featured Allegheny since 1996, highlighting the college’s focus on personalized, student-centered learning and undergraduate research opportunities.
• The Princeton Review recognized Allegheny as a Best Value College, based on stellar academics, affordable cost and strong career prospects for graduates, as well as one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education in the 2022 publication of “The Best 387 Colleges.”
• Allegheny earned the No. 56 spot nationally in the 2021 Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education rankings of the best liberal arts colleges in the U.S. The rankings are based on ​​student outcomes, including graduates’ salaries and debt; academic resources, including how much the college spends on teaching; and student engagement.
• Allegheny ranked No. 76 nationally among liberal arts colleges in the Forbes list of America’s Top Colleges 2021, based primarily on return on investment and outcomes, including social mobility and alumni salaries.
• Allegheny was ranked among the top 25 colleges in Pennsylvania in 2022 rankings by Niche, based on their analysis of academic, admissions, financial and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with millions of reviews from students and alumni.
