2025 U.S. News and World Report Once Again Recognizes Allegheny College As A Top National Liberal Arts College and Shines A Spotlight on Its Research and Teaching

U.S. News & World Report has again named Allegheny College one of the top 100 national liberal arts colleges in the country. Significant highlights include Allegheny’s continued recognition as a Best Value School and its inclusion in five other top program lists:

  • #9 for Senior Capstone
  • #11 for First-Year Experiences
  • #16 for Undergraduate Teaching
  • #23 for Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects
  • #38 for Top Performers in Social Mobility

“It’s truly an exciting time at Allegheny College. With new academic programs, tremendous momentum for our Strategic Pathway and an upcoming campaign to invest in our students, alumni, faculty and community, we are thrilled to see that our academic peers continue to recognize the strength of our programs and teaching,” said President Ron Cole, Ph.D. “Our new student enrollment this fall was a 12% increase over last year. These accolades from U.S. News help families understand the impact of an Allegheny College education for the 21st century and beyond.”

Provost Jennifer Dearden adds, “Allegheny faculty understand the importance of experiential learning in preparing students for a successful launch after graduation. The Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities (URSCA) promotes hands-on opportunities as early as the first-year, while every Allegheny senior completes a significant project in their major, or capstone experience, alongside a faculty mentor.”

The U.S. News & World Report ranking of top national liberal arts colleges is based on several key quality measures, including graduation and retention rates, social mobility, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving.

Allegheny’s distinctive approach to a liberal arts and sciences education has been recognized by several notable national arbiters of educational impact and quality, including:

  • The Princeton Review recognized Allegheny as a Nation’s Best Value Institution, in the 2024 edition of its flagship college guide. Most notably, Allegheny has been named #4 for Top 20 Schools for Making an Impact, a significant achievement in the lives of students, alumni and the community. The organization also mentions Allegheny as one of the Best Northeastern Colleges.
  • Washington Monthly recognized Allegheny among the top 75 best liberal arts colleges nationwide in the publication’s 2024 rankings. The ranking is based on three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarships and Ph D.s), and service (encouraging students to give something back to society).
  • In the Top Colleges of 2024, Forbes recognized Allegheny among the nation’s top colleges based on the quality of education, price, and return on investment.
  • Colleges That Change Lives (CTCL), a leading national voice in college choice, has featured Allegheny since 1996, highlighting the college’s focus on personalized, student-centered learning and undergraduate research.
