Role & Approval Delegations

Last Updated on April 21, 2025

A Delegate is a person you have authorized to manage tasks for you. There are two kinds of delegates:

  • Role Delegation will give a delegate the permissions that come with your role, with a few exceptions.
  • Approval Delegation will give a delegate approval permissions to complete a specific task.

Navigate to Roles and Delegation

To delegate in Oracle first you’ll need to go to Roles and Delegations. To do so, open Oracle and in the Me tab, go to Roles and Delegations.

Role Delegation

Allows you to delegate a specific role you have to another person. When delegating a role it will come with almost all the permissions that you normally have, so be careful about the access you grant to your employees.

In some cases, role delegation will not cover all the needs your delegate requires to accomplish a task, and you will have to make them an approval delegate for a specific category.

Approval Delegation

Allows you to delegate a specific approval ability you have for a specific category in Oracle and grant it to a delegate.

An example of this, and the most common type of approval delegation is the Time and Labor category. Once you’ve delegated Time and Labor approval to an employee they will be granted the same permission you have in the time and labor module, being able to access all time and labor approvals that you normally have access to.

The most common types of approval delegations are:

  • Expense Approvals
  • Time and Labor Reports
  • Purchasing, Requisitions, Bill-paying

Please note that once you’ve delegated approval to an employee for a category you will no longer be able to receive notifications for any approvals in that category. This is because you are removed from the approval queue after delegating your approval to an employee. You will still be able to access your normal workflow and approvals, but you will no longer receive notifications for that specific approval while an employee is delegated.
