If you suspect you&#8217;re in danger, you can use a noise-making device to move to a lit area or building and raise a commotion.<\/li>\n<li>If you feel uneasy about a situation, trust your instincts and attempt to interrupt the chain of events.<\/li>\n<li>Get help for those who need it. Remember that being a part of our community means that we help each other when we are in need.\n<ul>\n<li>The College\u2019s Good Samaritan Policy allows you to call for help for a fellow student who is in need of medical attention without the fear of College disciplinary action. The selection dates are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rising Seniors<\/strong> (priority numbers 1000 &#8211; 1999): March 30th and 31st<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rising Juniors\u00a0<\/strong>(priority numbers 2000 &#8211; 2999): April 2nd and 3rd<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rising Sophomores<\/strong> (priority numbers 3000 &#8211; 3999): April 7th and 8th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Housing Exemption Form<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are currently living on-campus and will be attending Allegheny during the 2026-2027 academic year, <\/span><b>you must complete either the Housing Application to live on-campus, or the Housing Exemption request to be released from the Residency Requirement. The Housing Application is due March 2nd, 2026, at 12:00 AM.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Housing Application\/Meal Plan Selection<b>: <\/b>All students who will be on-campus must sign their Housing Application no later than March 2nd, 2026, at 12:00 AM. Each student has received an email with instructions to access the agreement in the Self-Service Portal as well as to choose a meal plan.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.allegheny.edu\/manage\/login?realm=&amp;r=\/register\/housingexemption\">Housing Exemption Request Form<\/a>: Students requesting a change in status (e.g. commuting or living off-campus) must make a request using this form. You will need to be logged into your Allegheny account to complete this form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2026-2027 Allegheny Housing Selection Process<\/h3>\n<h4><b>Directions<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>Beginning Tuesday, February 24th at 7:30 AM, you will be able to complete the Housing Application for 2026-2027 in your Self-Service Portal. <b><i>Completing this application is required to participate in the room selection process. Again, Housing Applications are due March 2nd, 2026, at 12:00 AM.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>After 7:30 AM on Tuesday, please log into your Self-Service Portal:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log into your Allegheny email account<\/li>\n<li>At the top right, click on the Google waffle icon<\/li>\n<li>Select Adirondack<\/li>\n<li>Select Housing Agreement &gt; 2026-2027 Returning Student Housing Agreement from the left menu<\/li>\n<li>You will be prompted to sign the agreement and select a dining plan<\/li>\n<li>You will receive a confirmation message when your Housing Application is fully submitted<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have any questions, please email <a href=\"mailto:reslife@allegheny.edu\">reslife@allegheny.edu<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Housing Selection Process<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who are eligible for the Housing Selection Process will receive a Housing Selection number via their Allegheny email after the Housing Application is complete. The assigned Housing Selection time is based on this priority number.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Housing Selection Numbers: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students are sorted into cohorts based on the year that they entered Allegheny (not necessarily the same as class year or credits earned), and students are assigned a housing selection number based on the time they submitted their housing application, with earlier submission times getting lower numbers. Groups will select a housing option based on the <\/span><b>best (lowest) number <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in the group. If you are living with students with an earlier selection number, you are not required to participate in selection. Housing Selection Forms must be fully completed at the time of selection. Residence Life will double check information to make sure all students have listed each other as roommates. Providing false information to obtain or fill a space will result in forfeiture of participation in the Housing Selection Process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Roommate Selection: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spaces must be completely filled at the time of selection and maintain full occupancy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Students without Roommates:<\/strong> Students who are not a part of a roommate group during Housing Selection will be paired accordingly based on their housing agreements after Housing Selection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In situations where there are roommates, only one student needs to make the selection (the student with the lowest priority number in the group).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Changes in Housing Assignments: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The College reserves the right to make adjustments to housing assignments in order to accommodate all housing needs. Students will be informed if changes must be made to assignments after Housing Selection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Students who are not eligible or choose not to participate in the Housing Selection Process will be assigned to a vacant space.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Room Rates <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.allegheny.edu\/finserv\/room-rates\/\">this Allegheny College page<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility<\/h3>\n<p><b>Students eligible for the Housing Selection Process:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Students who will be on campus for the fall semester, including students studying abroad during the spring semester, who are not included on the list below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Students Ineligible for Housing Selection Process:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> These students are not eligible to participate in the Housing Selection Process<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who will not be on campus during the fall semester.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who are living in fraternity houses, special interest housing, language houses, gender-inclusive, and thematic housing; these students are pre-housed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who have accepted a position with Residence Life; these students are pre-housed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Students exempt from the Housing Selection Process:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> These students need not participate in the Housing Selection Process. If a student would like to change their status, they must complete the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.allegheny.edu\/manage\/login?realm=&amp;r=\/register\/housingexemption\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Housing Exemption Request Form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u00a0Allegheny College may grant exemptions to the on-campus residency requirement based upon the following guidelines:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The student has lived on campus at other colleges\/universities and may be exempt from the Allegheny requirement for the number of semesters lived on campus elsewhere.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The student commutes from the primary residence of a parent, legal guardian or family member within 50 miles of the college<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The student is married and\/or has dependents<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The student is 23 years of age or older<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The student is enrolled as a part-time student (11 credit hours or less).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Housing Agreement<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Housing Agreement is due by <b>March 2nd, 2026, at 12:00 AM<\/b>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who do not complete the Housing Agreement by the deadline will not be eligible to participate in the Housing Selection Process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who are currently on leave and approved to return for the fall semester must fill out the Housing Agreement by the due date to participate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Accommodations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: If you would like to request a housing accommodation, please see the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.allegheny.edu\/disabilityservices\/special-housing-requests\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Housing Accommodation Request page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and\/or contact the Director of Student Accessibility and Support Services, John Mangine (<\/span><a href=\"mailto:jmangine@allegheny.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">jmangine@allegheny.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, 814-332-2898).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>TIPS<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Have multiple options in mind<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: Residence Life will be live-updating the rooms as they are selected.\u00a0 Your group must have the same number as the option you are choosing (e.g. you must have 5 people to choose a 5-person option).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Apartment-style Housing:\u00a0<\/b>Rising 3rd and 4th years are now able to pull rising 2nd years \u2018up\u2019 during their room selection for the following: North Village 2, Allegheny Commons, and College Court.\n<ul>\n<li>Rising 2nd years will NOT be able to be \u2018pulled up\u2019 into North Village 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Have backup plans:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Plan for scenarios where you may have to change the number in your group (e.g. the last four-person apartment was selected before your group of four could select, so you will split into two groups of two). Please note: this could also change your selection time based on the best number in your new group.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sophomores may have limited access to single rooms. Please plan on having a roommate and come prepared with that option. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Choose roommates carefully:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Please have conversations with possible roommates about living preferences and desired housing options before the selection process begins.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Be honest about your plans:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> It helps to be upfront with those in your group about what happens if plans changes (e.g. no more 5-person options are available, and the group must split) before selection night. Preferences will be in order of deposit date; updates to preferences will not alter your date.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who are in specialty housing will be placed. Students in these areas may not be able to request roommates who are not part of their specialty housing program. Once a student is placed in specialty housing, they may not change to a different type of housing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Residence Life will place students into housing based on their preferences. No separate application is required\u2014students can simply indicate their preference on the housing form. All first-year housing is offered in double-occupancy rooms.<\/p>\n<h4>Upper-Class Students<\/h4>\n<p>In all-gender housing, upper-class students can select either double-occupancy or single-occupancy rooms. This option allows students to choose a living arrangement that best meets their needs without gender-based room assignments. For added convenience, all-gender restrooms are available in designated spaces.<\/p>\n<p>Residents are expected to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Foster a positive and respectful living environment.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize and respect different housing preferences.<\/li>\n<li>Engage in the residential community as active members.<\/li>\n<li>Abide by all campus housing policies outlined in The Compass.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Independent Living Spaces<\/h4>\n<p>Upper-class students can also choose All-Gender Housing in independent living spaces, which allows roommate selection without gender-based room assignments. The wing includes four language-focus houses (Arabic\/MENA, German, French, and Spanish), one International Studies House, and one International Interest House. The International Interest House for students that do not have language ability but who have a strong academic interest in International Studies\/Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants for this community might include students with an interest in international or foreign language studies, international students, or students who have lived or traveled abroad. Sophomores are encouraged to apply but please note that preference may be given to students with more academic or international study experience. While a previous background in the particular language or academic area may strengthen a student\u2019s application for a specific house, students do NOT have to be majoring in that field to be considered for the house.<\/p>\n<p>For students with demonstrated (FAFSA) financial need, additional financial aid is possible up to $1,000. This aid is only available to students who reside in the language houses and International Studies House.
