Allegheny College Bird Club (ACBC)

Purpose: Bird Club is an official campus chapter of the National Audubon Society. We provide a space for the entire campus community to learn more about birds and to get involved in bird conservation.

We meet weekly and organize several birdwatching trips throughout the semester. Past trips have included duck banding at Pymatuning Wildlife Refuge, owl banding at the Allegheny National Forest, trail maintenance at Presque Isle, and general birdwatching at Conneaut Marsh, Erie National Wildlife Refuge, Woodcock Lake, and Presque Isle. The club also has a collection of bird books and binoculars that students are free to borrow.

As an Audubon campus chapter, we communicate directly and get support from one of the largest conservation non-profits in the country, and do local conservation work. This year, we’ve been working to install a Chimney Swift tower and set up a related monitoring program on campus.
