Purpose: We stand for service, education, and activism within environmental and ecological justice realms. We aim to engage students, faculty, and administration on and off of campus by cultivating sustainable relationships with the surrounding natural areas in which we live, while concurrently supporting and learning about local and national community environmental efforts. Throughout our history, we have participated in community service days like the annual French Creek Cleanup, partnered with local groups and businesses for our Environmental Film Festival and Trashion Show events, hosted potlucks with the Green Living house, and held demonstrations on campus for issues spanning from the college’s divestment from fossil fuels to a campaign for reusable dining hall take-out containers. In recent years, SEA has hosted speakers and workshops from political environmental organizations like the Citizens Climate Lobby, the Sunrise Movement, and coastal advocacy group One Hundred Miles. During some of our weekly meetings, our board and members hold discussions on everything from current events to philosophies of environmentalism, politics, and activism. SEA is an open community and welcomes anyone who would like to engage more with environmental action and thought.
