About the Conference

Welcome the stranger is an integral part of religious practices and cultural traditions around the world. As human beings, we long for the same things: love, shelter and a better life for our children. In this election year, with the political polemics of slamming doors and closing borders in the faces of people fleeing war, crippling poverty and suffering, our conference aspires to remind us of our common humanity and the role journalists play in reporting and sharing the stories of those seeking safety and a new place to call home. This is Allegheny College’s fourth annual journalism/multimedia conference.

  • March 4-5, 2016
  • Free and open to the public
  • All events will be held in the Vukovich Center for the Arts
  • Facebook group

The conference is sponsored by the Journalism in the Public Interest program at Allegheny College and The Campus newspaper. With additional support from the Ohio University School of Visual Communication and the Scripps College of Communication; the University of Mississippi Meek School of Journalism and New Media; Allegheny’s William Beazell Memorial Fund, Allegheny students in the Bonner program; the Art Department; the Environmental Science/Studies Department; the International Studies program; the Political Science Department; Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies program; the Huidekoper-Kidder Lectureship Endowed Fund and a grant to Allegheny College from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
