Allegheny College Hillel is a student-led organization that supportsand encourages the exploration of Jewish life and culture. During this year’s Make a Difference Day in October, Hillel reached out to Allegheny’s Islamic Awareness Society, Interfaith Fellowship and International Club to collaborate on a daylong service project at the local Jewish Community Center. More than 30 students participated, sharing interfaith and cross-cultural conversations while performing important work throughout the day. Visit The Hillel website for more information.
Gators Give Back Rummage Sale for Project Chacocente
Gators Give Back is an umbrella organization which seeks to house any interests related to international service in the realms of health (social, physical, economic, political, spiritual, etc.) and development. They invite any student with an international topic of interest to bring it forward to the group for discussion that can translate into action!
We fulfill our roles as global citizens at both the local and international levels during our annual Rummage Sale Fundraising Initiative for Proyecto Chacocente. Student donations are collected during move-out, and recycled to be sold in the Meadville community. The students who founded the fundraiser contextualized international development questions during an EL Trip to Nicaragua in 2007, and put their thoughts into action by founding GGB. Chacocente is a grassroots organization outside Managua which supports families previously residing in the capital city’s municipal dump.
