Professor Emeritus of Art George Roland had a work of computational art accepted into the 93rd Spring Show at the Erie Art Museum. Juried by artist and educator Virgil Marti, the exhibition runs to July 17.

This year’s juror Sean McConnor, Curator of Art and Painting Professor at Thiel College, awarded the Juror’s Prize for Best in Show to Elijah Prince, for his piece “D-PHI”.

The Exhibition, open to all Allegheny will be on view in the Art Department Bowman, Megahan and Penelec Galleries from April 5 through April 17, 2016. Additional student work can be seen in the adjacent hallways in the “Salon des Refusés.”

Brianna Layman ’16 has been awarded a Three Rivers Pittsburgh Arts Festival Emerging Artist Scholarship, an award that includes a booth for her to showcase and sell her artwork at the annual arts festival. Brianna will be exhibiting her work June 3–7.

Ceramics and Sculpture Technician Ian F. Thomas had artwork reviewed in the international magazine Ceramics Monthly by author and critic Dr. Glen Brown. Thomas’s artwork was a finalist in the Zanesville Prize for Contemporary Ceramics at the Zanesville Art Museum in Ohio. His work was one of fifty artworks that were chosen from more than 900 entries nationwide. He also has artwork in the Society for Contemporary Craft’s exhibition “Mindful: Exploring Mental Health through Art,” which is slated to travel for the next two years to museums and universities across the country. He also exhibited artwork in “Cup: The Intimate Object XI” at the Charlie Cummings Gallery in Gainesville, Florida. In addition, he had three written art reviews featured on eutopia.us, an online critical art website; presented a lecture on his research at Adrian College; and gave a technical workshop.

Through the generosity of the late Foster B. Doane, a former Allegheny trustee, awards in art are given annually as a result of a competition. The prizes in Painting and Drawing, Graphics, Sculpture or Ceramics, and Juror’s Prize will be presented on April 5, 2016, during the opening reception of the student art exhibition. All winners will receive a cash award and a book inscribed to indicate the nature of the award.
Entries are due on March 28th and 29th from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. No late entries will be accepted.

Dec. 1, 2015 – The Department of Art at Allegheny College will open the annual Senior Projects and Advanced Studio Projects Exhibition, “Being Made Whole,” with a public reception in the galleries on Tuesday, December 8 from 7 to 8 p.m. The show is an opportunity to showcase the work of graduating art majors and minors and upper-level art students.
Exhibiting in the gallery show are Allegheny students Rebecca Anderson, Allyson Bartlett, Elizabeth Blaschak, Andrea Brush, Emily Cancilla, Chelsea Fillippa, Kento Hashimoto, Doranny Jaime Abreu, Tianzhu Li, Jackson Magee, Brooke Osborne, Benjamin Tarcson and Paul Topor.
In addition to the public reception, the exhibit can be viewed through Sunday, December 13. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12:30-4 p.m.; Saturday, 1:30-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 2-4 p.m. The galleries are closed on Mondays.
The Art Galleries, which are wheelchair accessible, are located in Doane Hall of Art, east of North Main Street between College and John Streets in Meadville.
