Prior to Beginning to Work
Under PA Act 153, if through your paid employment or volunteer work affiliated with Allegheny College you will have direct contact with minors, you must obtain:
- PA State Police Criminal History Record
- PA Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse Clearance
- Federal Criminal History Record
Allegheny College will cover the fees of the background checks and assist in the application process.
Some positions may require you to complete a Mandated Reporter Training.
Your supervisor will notify you if you need to complete clearances or Mandated Reporter Training.
Lost your FBI Results?
You can call the Department of Human Services at 877-371-5422 to request a copy of your FBI Fingerprinting Results. It usually takes 2-3 weeks to receive a copy in the mail. Results are kept on record for one year.
Process
Students can make an appointment to come into the Financial Aid Office to begin the process for clearances.
You can contact our office by emailing studentemployment@allegheny.edu or by calling 814-332-2701 to make an appointment.

Allegheny Clearance Policy
If students neglect to turn in clearances in a timely manner or lose them and therefore need to re-apply for them, Allegheny will no longer provide coupon codes or reimburse for clearances.
This policy does not apply to students who are required by their program to re-apply for clearances every 6 months, year, etc. such as Meadville Medical Center.
