Allegheny College Board of Trustees Elects Three New Members

Oct. 20, 2014 – Three individuals have been sworn in as new members of the Allegheny College Board of Trustees: James R. DeFrancesco of Ellicott City, Md.; Terrence L. Hartford of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Robert E. McGarity of New York, N.Y. They will each serve a six-year term.

DeFrancesco is the chief executive officer of ACell Inc., a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of next-generation regenerative medicine products. He previously served as CEO, board chairman, president and co-founder of Credit Management Solutions, Inc. He also served in the U.S. Air Force, working with cryptographic communications systems.

DeFrancesco has made several visits to Allegheny’s campus to speak to students. He and his wife, Pamela Malamphy, live in Maryland.

Hartford, TerrenceTerrence L. Hartford
Hartford (Allegheny Class of 1981) is vice president and general manager – sheet division at ATI Allegheny Ludlum, a world leader in the technology, production and marketing of specialty materials – stainless steels, grain-oriented electrical steels, titanium and nickel alloys, as well as other advanced alloys. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Allegheny and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

Hartford is a member of the Board of Visitors for the Allegheny College Managerial Economics program. He and his wife, Laura Laderer Hartford (Class of 1982), have four children: Leslie, Terry Jr. (Class of 2011), Michael and Colin (Class of 2013).

McGarity (Allegheny Class of 1980) is senior director – compensation at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, a leading Canadian-based global financial institution. He graduated from Allegheny with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

McGarity has taken part in numerous Allegheny functions, including hosting an alumni event in New York City and serving on the class gift committee for his 25th Reunion. In September 2012, he married Henry Robin, who is the co-chair of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation Board of Directors.
