Allegheny Featured in Princeton Review’s “Best 381 Colleges”

Allegheny College is one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company features the school in the new 2017 edition of its flagship college guide, “The Best 381 Colleges.”

Only about 15% of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges are profiled in the book, which includes detailed profiles of the colleges.

In its profile on Allegheny, The Princeton Review quotes extensively from students the company surveyed for the book. Among their comments: Allegheny is a school “where people exude passion about what they’re involved in” and the curriculum is “all about applying your knowledge to your experiences.”

Students also noted the many research opportunities available at Allegheny, a fact recently recognized by the Council on Undergraduate Research. The organization in January presented its inaugural Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishment to Allegheny, the only baccalaureate college in the nation to receive the award.

“It’s an honor to be recognized again among the country’s best colleges by The Princeton Review and a continued reflection of Allegheny’s rising national prominence,” said Cornell LeSane II, vice president for enrollment and dean of admissions. “I’m especially glad that the guide features comments from students who shared their Allegheny experiences. In fact, the opportunity to hear directly from our students and faculty is one of the reasons we encourage high school students to take full advantage of a campus visit — it’s the best way for them to ask questions and see firsthand how a college will prepare and challenge them.”

In addition to its inclusion in “The Best 381 Colleges,” The Princeton Review featured Allegheny in its most recent “Guide to 353 Green Colleges” and the 2016 edition of “Colleges That Pay You Back: The 200 Schools That Give You the Best Bang for Your Tuition Buck.” The Princeton Review’s editors praised Allegheny for “providing a top tier education and high graduation rates with affordable prices.”

Earlier this week, Allegheny also was named one of the Top 30 Best Liberal Arts Colleges in the nation in Washington Monthly’s annual rankings.
