Naim Edwards will discuss themes of justice, anti-racism work and environmental and food sustainability. He lives in Detroit and is the garden designer and program manager for Voices for Earth Justice, promoting and managing urban and community gardens and sustainable food systems.

Movie Night – “Slavery by Another Name”
Quigley Auditorium

Based on Douglas A. Blackmon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, the film illuminates how in the years following the Civil War, insidious new forms of forced labor emerged in the American South, persisting until the onset of World War II (PBS.org).

Immediately following the film, we will have a discussion about the themes presented in the film and how they compare to Dr. King’s vision.

Allegheny students will perform readings, Darnell Epps, Mikel Prester, and Professor John Christie Searles will provide special music, and guest speaker John Christie Searles will deliver a challenging message centering on Dr. King’s commitment to action.
