Living & Learning in Community

As we begin another semester of, we want to remind you of best practices when you are ill. We ask members of our community, regardless of illness, to take precautions such as seeing a health care provider, testing if appropriate, wearing a mask, staying home and/or completing work remotely when possible.

Allegheny College will follow current CDC guidance about COVID symptoms. If you test positive for COVID, strep, the flu or any other transmittable illness, then you should restrict contact with other members of the community.

Symptomatic testing is available on campus for students at the Winslow Health and Wellbeing Center in Schultz Hall. Employees and non-symptomatic students should use an at-home antigen test if they have had exposure to someone who is ill.

If you test positive for COVID, strep, the flu or any other contagious illness, then you should restrict contact with other members of the community. Please wear a mask when around other people. There are N95 masks at Public Safety in Murray Hall and the Student Life Suite in the Campus Center for those who need them. If you need assistance in obtaining a mask e-mail wellness@allegheny.edu.

The CDC provides actions you can take to help protect yourself and others from health risks caused by respiratory viruses. They advise the following for those who test positive:

  • Wear a high-quality mask if you must be around others at home and in public.
  • Do not travel.
  • Stay home and separate from others as much as possible.
  • Don’t share personal household items, like cups, towels, and utensils.
  • Monitor your symptoms. If you have an emergency warning sign (like trouble breathing), seek emergency medical care immediately.

Students with roommates who wish to isolate in a different room may do so. Please e-mail deanofstudents@allegheny.edu so that we may assign you a temporary living space.
