Allegheny will not replace lost state grant funds due to late filing.

Some state grant programs may require supplemental applications.

Because of the FAFSA Simplification Act, the 2024-2025 FAFSA underwent significant changes, which has created challenges and delays.

There is some good news, however.  The latest update from the Department of Education will benefit many FAFSA filers by increasing their aid eligibility.  The Department is amending the calculations to account for inflation which will protect a greater portion of a family’s income and assets from being considered in the Student Aid Index (SAI).

Unfortunately, that means that FAFSAs will not be sent to schools until the first half of March.  Further delays could happen as FAFSAs will be released to colleges in batches.  The Department is currently estimating that it will take them a few weeks to deliver them all.  It will take a little additional time for our office to process these FAFSAs and create a financial aid offer.

Be assured that Allegheny’s Financial Aid Office is committed to assisting families through this stressful time, and is prepared to respond swiftly once the FAFSAs are released.  Financial aid awards will be sent to prospective students as quickly as possible.

If these restrictions pose a hardship or if you have any questions, please call the office for assistance at 1-800-835-7780, or e-mail fao@allegheny.edu.
