Allegheny Featured in Annual ‘Fiske Guide to Colleges’

Allegheny College is featured in the 34th edition of the “Fiske Guide to Colleges 2018,” a reference book for prospective students and their families that describes life on campus at the country’s best colleges and universities.

The “Fiske Guide to Colleges” publishes detailed profiles, including interviews with students, for more than 300 four-year schools. The guide is fully updated and expanded every year, and, according to USA Today, is the most authoritative source of information for college-bound students and their parents.

“We’re honored that Allegheny is once again included in ‘The Fiske Guide to Colleges,’ a welcome recognition of our growing national reputation as a premier institution of higher learning,” said Ron Cole, provost and dean of the college. “We encourage students and families to visit campus and see for themselves how an Allegheny education can change lives.”

The Office of Admissions will host open houses on July 21 and Aug. 18. The events start at 8:45 a.m. and run to about 2:30 p.m. The sessions include campus tours, opportunities to have lunch with current students and community members, plus a panel discussion. Visitors can take part in an early tour at 8 a.m. The July 21 event will feature Summer Research Symposium.

The “Fiske Guide” describes Allegheny as a place “with a rich history of academic excellence,” where students gain real-work experience alongside their classroom work. It also highlights the Allegheny Gateway, a clearinghouse for internship opportunities, service learning, overseas study and career services.

The guide also says that “students appreciate the value placed on individuality and involvement: ‘Students are encouraged to explore their unusual combinations of interests, skills, and talents. The word ‘no’ is not often used here.’”
