Civic Symphony Presents Fall Concert
MEADVILLE, Pa. – November 23, 2004 – Under the direction of Music Professor Jonathan Graber, the Allegheny College Civic Symphony will present a fall concert on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel.
Graber has directed Allegheny’s Civic Symphony since 2001 and brings a firm knowledge of the symphonic repertoire and a keen insight into the psyche of the orchestral musician. He has played in a variety of orchestras as a violinist and a violist. Graber has also served as a performer and conductor throughout the United States and Europe.
The program will include the music of Corelli, Handel, Vaughan-Williams, and Holst. Musicians performing in the concert will include cello soloists Allegheny College music instructor Jacqueline Black and one of her students, David W. Tatar.
Black joined the music faculty at Allegheny College this fall. She has a master of music performance and literature from the University of Notre Dame, a master of music in cello performance from Northwestern University, and a bachelor of music degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has performed in concerts across the United States and in Japan. As Artist-in-Residence for the Gila Valley Arts Council, in Safford, Arizona, Black performed with the Savane Trio as part of Chamber Music America’s Rural Residency program, taking chamber music to places it had never been.
Tatar, originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., is a senior music education major at Mercyhurst College. During his time at Mercyhurst, he has had the opportunity to perform with the String Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Winds, Concert Choir and Carpe Diem Chorale.
This concert is free and open to the public. For further information, please contact Jonathan Graber at (814) 332-3307.
