Carr Hall Garden is a hands-on learning and teaching garden for the Allegheny campus and community.  Fruits, veggies, and herbs are grown in this nearly 3000 square foot garden and experimental, power generating greenhouse.

Student workers, classes, volunteers, and Kerstin Ams, the part-time Garden Manager, raise organic and sustainable food for dining services, who in turn serve the food to students in Brooks Hall and McKinley’s Food Court. Any leftover food scraps are then composted and spread on the garden to provide nutrients for the next crops.

Crops grown in recent seasons include…

  • Bok choy
  • Broccoli
  • Eggplants
  • Lettuce
  • Peppers
  • Spinach
  • Tomatoes

Carr Hall Garden was founded in 2013 and is a product of an ESS department Spring 2012 Junior Seminar class.
