Allegheny College Announces Two Appointments

MEADVILLE, PA – March 2, 2006 – Allegheny College president Richard Cook announced today that David McInally, formerly Secretary of the College, has been appointed vice president for finance and planning at Allegheny, effective immediately.

Larry Lee, director of athletics and recreation, has been promoted to the position of associate vice president and will provide support to the vice president in areas such as projects, contracts, campus facilities and auxiliary enterprises.

McInally has served as the interim vice president for finance and administration, in addition to his duties as Secretary of the College, for the past 10 months. He began his tenure at Allegheny in 1986 as assistant dean of students and became dean of students in 1992. He has served as Secretary of the College since 2001.

He holds a bachelor of science in business administration and a master of arts in English from the University of Akron and a doctor of education degree in administration and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh.

McInally’s appointment is the culmination of a yearlong search to fill the finance position.

“After discussions with numerous people on campus and several members of the Board of Trustees, what became clear was the high regard people have for Dave,” said President Cook in announcing the appointment. “Frequently mentioned were his intelligence, clarity, integrity, strategic vision, and leadership – and his increasingly obvious facility with matters of budget and finance. During the search, Dave has overseen planning and contracts for two major campus construction projects, successfully led a Standard & Poor’s bond upgrade and multi-million-dollar bond issue, and guided the building of next year’s budget and a five-year financial projection, among other accomplishments. In short, Dave has emerged during the search as the type of Vice President we had been seeking externally.”

Larry Lee came to Allegheny three years ago to serve as the director of athletics and recreation and has since taken on a number of additional responsibilities. He has a bachelor of science in kinesiology from the University of Southern Colorado and a master of science in business administration/management from the University of Denver.

“Larry has demonstrated his skill and dedication in taking on a variety of responsibilities that go well beyond athletics, recreation, and fitness,” said Cook. “These include summer programs and conferences, the Merriman Bookstore, a comprehensive parking study, and planning, contracts, and fundraising for the renewed track and field at the Robertson Athletic Complex.”

“We are fortunate to have a deep pool of talent within the College and a remarkable willingness of people to step forward to meet institutional needs,” said Cook.
