Please join us THIS FRIDAY, October 20th from 12:15 pm – 1:15 pm in Carnegie 110 for our Psychological Science Brown Bag.
This week, we will look into some recent research to discuss whether Using Social Media to Unwind is helpful, harmful, or both? If you have ever used Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. to get away, unwind, or connect and experienced the mixed effects of spending time on social media, this is for you! We will discuss research that has looked at effects of social media on productivity, brain activity, self-esteem, mood, and a sense of belongingness. As always, our meetings are open to anyone – so bring a friend and spread the news! There is no need to RSVP.
Here are some resources for those who would like to get a sense of what we will be talking about:
- Six Ways Social Media Affects Our Mental Health (Forbes)
- Schadenfacebook (The Hidden Brain)
- If You Think Everyone Else Has More Friends (in College), You’re Not Alone (NPR)
- The Teenage Brain on Social Media (UCLA)
Looking forward to seeing many of you on Friday!
