Psychological Science Brown Bag September 4

Friday, September 4th from 12:20 pm -1:20 pm in Carnegie 110

You’re receiving this email because you’ve expressed an interest in receiving updates on our departmental brown bag meetings (“Psychological Science Brown Bags, or “PSBB”). For those of you who have never been to a meeting, this is a friendly and informal setting in which faculty and students discuss the latest research across many sub-fields of Psychology and Neuroscience. We meet a few times each semester. Each year, we also have lots of opportunities to talk about ongoing departmental and Senior project research. You do not currently have to be involved in research in order to participate – everyone is welcome!

We will open our series this year with the question “Learning How to Learn – Strategies for Long-term Retention of Material and Succeeding in College” We will meet on Friday, September 4th from 12:20 pm-1:20 pm in Carnegie 110.

If you’d like to have a look at some strategies before we meet, please have a look at the article “What Works, What Doesn’t”

Everyone is warmly invited, so spread the word and bring a friend! We look forward to seeing you there! Please bring your lunch to enjoy!

MEETING TODAY TO DISCUSS:

Brian Williams and the Malleability of Human Memory

Please join us this Friday, February 27th, for a discussion of the reliability and malleability of human memory.

We will meet on Friday from 12:20-1:20 in Carnegie 101. This week, we invite you to please bring your own lunch.

You may have been following the recent case of Brian Williams (the NBC News anchor who claimed he was in a helicopter crash in Iraq in 2003, only to be exposed a few weeks ago as having fabricated this version of events). Did he lie to make himself look better, or is it possible for him to actually “remember” his version of events? What does this line of research say about witness testimonies?

Presearchlease join us this Friday (11/7) from 12:20-1:20pm for our first student presentation session of the academic year. Maura Matvey and Becca Cohen will present their comp projects on “The Effect of Accent Prejudice on Subjective Well-Being” and “The Effects of Acute and Chronic Stress on Unethical Behavior”, respectively.

We will meet in Carnegie 101 and if you would like pizza, please RSVP by responding to ljackson2@allegheny.edu by Thursday, November 6th at 6 pm.

Come join us, support your peers, and find out more about the many different types of research being conducted in the department.

Sona Systems : Daylight Saving Time & Researcher Tutorial

This coming Sunday (November 2), at 2 am New York time, all our servers will switch their clocks back 1 hour to get off Daylight Saving Time.

If you are in an area that follows the same rule, there is nothing you need to do. If you are in an area with different time rules, you’ll need to adjust the time on your site after that change takes place. This is done in Set Up | System Settings | Current Time and be sure to save your changes.

It’s important the system has accurate time in order to properly enforce study sign-up and cancellation deadlines.

In other news, we just published a tutorial video for researchers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec8S3xfO-a8

It covers the most popular features researchers use and is a nice complement to the participant tutorial we published a few weeks ago. A link has also been added to our support site at https://www.sona-systems.com/support so you can easily find it later.

This email was sent to the contacts we have listed in our files for your site. If you need to update this or just have any questions, please let us know by emailing support@sona-systems.com
