He is both Entrepreneur in Residence and  the Co-Director of the Center for Business & Economics.  A published author of two books and multiple articles in the Pittsburgh media, his teaching and research interests include Managerial Economics, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, Investing Theory, Writing and Public Speaking.

Chatham Financial Excel Boot Camp

When: January 3-4, Kennett Square, PA  (outside Philadelphia)

What: The Excel Boot Camp will run from January 3rd to 4th and is open to undergraduate students. The event will entail a full day of instruction from Wall Street Prep, a Chatham mixer in the evening, and a relevant case-study application on the second day of the event. Chatham has run this event for the past three years and has received excellent feedback that the course is extremely beneficial to students regardless of their area of study.

Registration is open and students are encouraged to apply now, as space is first-come, first-serve and requires the completion of a prerequisite course prior to admittance.

The Economics Department can provide funding for all expenses for this experience for a limited number of students.  First apply to the Boot Camp, if you are accepted into their program, email Beth Ryan your resume and academic transcript  by December 7, 2018.

Meadville Medical Center, Spring 2019 Internships

When:  Applications due by Friday, November 16 to Professor Becky Dawson (rdawson@allegheny.edu)

What: The Meadville Medical Center (MMC) is recruiting students for 5 internships in the spring. These are for-credit internships and provide students with opportunities across the spectrum of work done by a community hospital. Specifically, MMC is looking for students to fill positions in marketing, patient education, community-based research, and administration.

Please share widely. Positions are most appropriate for sophomores & juniors; however, they will entertain applications from all who are interested. Details about applying are on Gator Connect, along with a description of each position.

Robert Glennon Lecture

Where: Ford Memorial Chapel

What: Robert Glennon, one of the nation’s foremost scholars on water policy and law, will deliver a free address titled “Our Thirst for Energy in a Warming, Water-Stressed World” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Allegheny College’s Ford Chapel.

During his visit, Glennon will also receive the inaugural Ewalt Environmental Prize from the college for his research exploring solutions to worsening water shortages, especially in the western United States. He will meet with students during a lunchtime program on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Davies Community Service Leader Program Seeking Interns for the 2018-2019 Academic Year

The Davies Community Service Leader program strengthens the relationship between students, local organizations, Allegheny College, and the Meadville community. Over the 2018-2019 academic year, 14 Davies Leaders complete 300 hours (8-10 hours a week) of compensated service to our community. Davies Leaders Dedicate themselves to an agency, completing a specific project, which could include community research or project management to enhance both the student’s and the agency’s goals.

Sites for this academic year include: Center for Family Services, The Academy Theatre, Wesbury, Active Aging, Crawford County Conservation District, French Creek Valley Railroad Historical Society, Meadville Area Recreation Complex, Special Olympics of Pennsylvania

To apply, students should send a cover letter, resume, and contact information of two references, one of which must be from a professor or administrator, to Bethany Cocchi at bcocchi@allegheny.edu.

Bethesda Youth Outreach

Bethesda Youth Outreach is looking for volunteers who would be willing to work with young mothers and the youth at the group homes. This would be a two-day commitment every week. One day would be activity day so that the mentors can bond with the youth and the other day would be a tutoring day where we would come up with the lesson plan depending on the level that each student is at. “How the NRA ‘Politically Weaponized’ Gun Owners and What Others Can Learn From It”

What: Allegheny alumnus Matthew Lacombe ’11 (National Fellow, Jefferson Scholars Foundation, University of Virginia and Ph.D. candidate, Department of Political Science, Northwestern University) will be giving a talk titled “How the NRA ‘Politically Weaponized’ Gun Owners and What Others Can Learn From It.” Lacombe’s research focus is on understanding and explaining political power in the United States. He is co-author of “Billionaires and Stealth Politics,” a book to be published that details the political preferences and behavior of U.S. billionaires. This event is sponsored by the Law & Policy Program, the Center for Political Participation, and the Education Studies Program.

College to Congress Summer 2019 Internship

College to Congress is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that creates pathways for students
to intern in Congress who otherwise could not afford to do so. Through our comprehensive
program, we aim to disrupt the traditional pipeline of wealthy and connected people filling positions of power in the United States Congress. By empowering the next generation of
passionate and diverse young leaders to kick-start their careers in public service, we get one step closer to creating a Congress that is truly reflective of the beautiful diversity in America.

The application opens on October 1, with a priority deadline of October 31, and a general
deadline of November 30.

Davies Community Service Leader Program Seeking Interns for the 2018-2019 Academic Year

The Davies Community Service Leader program strengthens the relationship between students, local organizations, Allegheny College, and the Meadville community. Over the 2018-2019 academic year, 14 Davies Leaders complete 300 hours (8-10 hours a week) of compensated service to our community. Davies Leaders Dedicate themselves to an agency, completing a specific project, which could include community research or project management to enhance both the student’s and the agency’s goals.

Sites for this academic year include: Center for Family Services, The Academy Theatre, Wesbury, Active Aging, Crawford County Conservation District, French Creek Valley Railroad Historical Society, Meadville Area Recreation Complex, Special Olympics of Pennsylvania

To apply, students should send a cover letter, resume, and contact information of two references, one of which must be from a professor or administrator, to Bethany Cocchi at bcocchi@allegheny.edu.

Bethesda Youth Outreach

Bethesda Youth Outreach is looking for volunteers who would be willing to work with young mothers and the youth at the group homes. This would be a two-day commitment every week. One day would be activity day so that the mentors can bond with the youth and the other day would be a tutoring day where we would come up with the lesson plan depending on the level that each student is at. Highmark Leadership Acceleration Program

This job participates in enterprise-wide, cross functional, job rotation program to support our organization’s mission and goals. The incumbent is given six month functional assignments in varying business units over four rotations. During the course of the two years, incumbents will gain experience in corporate, customer, operations, and provider functions performing and responsible for various work streams and assignments.

Recruitment and selection will take place for this program from August – October 2018. There will be a Super Interview Day event in Mid-October for select applicants. The start date for this class of Leaders will be in June 2019.

U.S. Foreign Service Internship

The Department of State will be accepting applications for the U.S. Foreign Service Internship between September 4-11. Potential applicants are encouraged to connect with their local Diplomat in Residence to discuss their interest in this program along with Diplomat Careers.

We are fortunate to have Mr. Dale Giovengo serving as Allegheny College’s Diplomat in Residence this academic year. He will be available Monday, September 3, for questions regarding this internship.

What: Glade Run is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that provides autism, mental health educational, and unique therapeutic offerings to children and families through school and community based offerings across Western Pennsylvania. Services include St. Stephen’s Academies – licensed private schools offering ASD programming and direct positive behavior interventions and supports for youth in grades K-12; community and school based mental health services for children, adults and families; psychiatric rehabilitation, transition offerings for teens and young adults with autism, and therapeutic animal and horticulture programs through Glade Run Adventures. Representatives will be discussing teaching/education positions at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Academy- come check out these opportunities!
