The Community Engagement Office within the Maytum Center for Student Success helps to match interested students, student leaders, and clubs/groups to opportunities and resources. Allegheny students serve at approximately 25 local organizations on a consistent basis, with periodic Service Saturdays where 100 or more students team up for a morning of community service projects. Through hands-on experience within impact areas such as education, environment, or health and wellbeing, students gain a greater sense of community and personal meaning while also cultivating skills and knowledge that accompanies their academic and career pursuits.
The office organizes special service events and programming along with various community partner organizations ranging from one-time, week-long, or across all undergraduate years of study. The Bonner Program provides financial assistance and a cohort experience with over 50 students. Some students opt to serve through school-based work study paid positions such as Meadville Tutors or America Reads.

Service Organizations
Examples of organizations solely dedicated to service include Alpha Phi Omega (a coed service fraternity), Up ’til Dawn, and a campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Many other student organizations regularly engage in service, including Greek societies, residence halls, religious groups, special interest clubs, honorary societies, and athletic teams. Allegheny Volunteer Service Leaders and Bonner Leaders and Scholars, as well as the Office of Community Service, assist individuals and organizations in finding appropriate service options.
