What opportunities await students at the CBE?
Professional Development
Bloomberg Certification – the Bloomberg Lab at Allegheny College enables students to conduct research using Bloomberg terminals, the world’s most valuable tool in banking and finance.
Business and Economics Careers – Working with the Center for Career and Professional Development team, we support students with career exploration and opportunities.
CBE Fellows – A select group of motivated students that function as a leadership team to plan and execute CBE events, and act as student mentors and ambassadors for the department.
IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) – Students earn IRS certifications to prepare tax returns for low income, elderly and special needs taxpayers in Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
The Lunchtime Learning Lecture Series – Guest speakers offer valuable information on topics and industries related to internships and careers.
Money, Finance, Entrepreneurship
Zingale Financial Literacy Challenge – An event in which students develop a personal financial budget and investing plan appropriate for a recent college graduate. They can then choose to earn a certificate, academic credit and/or compete in the Challenge for cash prizes and trophies. Winners are invited to advance to the Western PA Certified Financial Analyst Society Collegiate Financial Plan Competition .
Allegheny College Student Managed Investment Fund – This fund provides students with real-world experience investing in the stock market and is student initiated under the guidance of faculty and an advisory board.
The Zingale Big Idea Competition – A student-focused seed-funding business pitch presentation competition. It is designed for new business ideas, which have yet-to-receive funding. This contest emulates the experiences seen on the popular CNBC broadcast, Shark Tank, but with a heart.
Mentorship, Networking, Discovery
The Board of Visitors Annual Event -The CBE Board of Visitors is an advisory board made up of distinguished alumni and business leaders that convenes annually to engage with students in a variety of activities to answer questions and offer “real world” perspective on trending topics in business and economics.
The Executive In Residence program – This event is designed to connect Allegheny students and faculty with prominent business executives who spend several days on the Allegheny campus speaking about their life experiences in business, paths to success, and lessons learned.
Distinguished Speaker in Economics/Executive Roundtable – The department hosts an annual Distinguished Lecture in Economics, or an Executive Roundtable to address contemporary issues of regional, national, and global interest. Participants are leading practitioners in business, government , higher education and related fields. Both lectures and roundtables bring students together with distinguished academics and business leaders whose perspectives and experiences create educational and career-related value.
Omicron Delta Epsilon Student Honor Society – One of the world’s largest academic honor societies recognizing scholastic attainment and honors outstanding achievements in the field of economics.
City Trips – These field trips are designed to enable students to travel to a metropolitan area, visit leading corporations and interact with business leaders. Students can explore careers and meet with successful Allegheny alumni.
Women in Business and Economics (WIBE) – Students in the Women in Business and Economics Club support, mentor, and promote women in the fields of Business and Economics, encouraging all who join to stay engaged in and excited about their academic and professional success.
