Scheduled, Brief Maintenance for Specific Applications

On Thursday, June 4th, at approximately 9:00 am, scheduled maintenance is scheduled for service on some of the college’s applications, particularly ones that authenticate with our Google Accounts.

During the maintenance, the following apps will be unavailable for approximately 5 minutes:

  • Adirondack

The outcome of this change will update the look of some of the apps within the Google App launcher. Upon completion of the maintenance, users may need to close and re-open their web browsers to regain access to the applications.

If you are unable to access any of the affected applications after the scheduled maintenance, please contact us at infodesk@allegheny.edu, and we will gladly assist you.

Weekend System Maintenance

ITS will be conducting major system updates over the weekend of May 2-3, 2020. These include important updates to Windows 10 and to Ellucian Colleague.

Users may notice some slowness and possible disconnection over the weekend, especially when using Colleague. Users connected to the campus network may experience unexpected shutdown and reboot of their computers over the weekend as their computers apply the Windows 10 update. A small number of users may not experience this unexpected shutdown and reboot until the morning of Monday, May 4.

In order to minimize the effect on your experience as a user, you can take the following steps:

  • Avoid using Ellucian Colleague between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday, May 2
  • Restart your computer at some point over the weekend

If you still experience these issues after rebooting your computer on Monday, May 4, please contact the InfoDesk or open a Web Help Desk ticket.

RefWorks Upgrade

The RefWorks service is scheduled for an upgrade for greater security and scalability. During the upgrade process, the following services will be unavailable:

  • (new) RefWorks
  • RefWorks Citation Manager
  • Write-n-Cite
  • RefWorks for Google Docs

These services will be unavailable starting Saturday March 21, 2020 at 4:00 AM Eastern Time, and for up to 4 hours.

If you experience issues with RefWorks after this time, please open a Web Help Desk ticket or contact the InfoDesk.

Ellucian Colleague Upgrade

Over the weekend of February 29-March 1, 2020, LITS will be applying some scheduled upgrades to the Ellucian Colleague software used by many offices across campus. Users may notice some changes to screens within Colleague, and some features will be enhanced.

If you encounter any issues with Colleague after Monday, March 2, please contact the InfoDesk or open a Web Help Desk ticket.

Scheduled Campus Phone System Maintenance

In order to address miscellaneous recent issues with Allegheny’s VOIP phone system, our phone service provider has advised a reboot of the system, scheduled for Monday morning, February 3, at 7:00 am.

This reboot would affect all desk phones on campus. The outage is expected to last about ten minutes.

Fax service, alarm dialers, and emergency phones should not be affected during the outage.

If you are still experiencing any disruption of campus phone service after 7:20 am, please contact the InfoDesk immediately by email at infodesk@allegheny.edu.

PaperCut Printing

Over Winter break, LITS updated the PaperCut software that administers printing all over campus.

Anyone using a Mac computer should visit the InfoDesk in Pelletier, or open a Web Help Desk ticket, and LITS staff will work with you to update the PaperCut client on your Mac.

Windows 10 PCs will need to reboot to reconnect to the print server. Some Windows 10 PCs may need to have the PaperCut client uninstalled and reinstalled.

If you have any questions, please contact the InfoDesk at x3768.

Scheduled Ebook Central Downtime

To ensure our ebook platforms remain updated and secure, ProQuest will be performing maintenance on Ebook Central in October 2019. During this time, resources from this service may be unavailable.

This maintenance will take place Saturday, October 19 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm EDT.

Scheduled Network Maintenance

Beginning at 3 a.m. on Sunday, October 13, LITS will be conducting scheduled maintenance on the Allegheny College network infrastructure. Work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m.

During this maintenance, internet services across campus will frequently be unavailable for extended periods. This will affect both wired and wireless networks. Most campus phone systems will also be unavailable during these interruptions.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of the campus community during this necessary maintenance.
