About IDEA
Allegheny College is a diverse constellation of peoples and perspectives. We are continuously at work to become a more welcoming, affirming, and inclusive campus. The Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA), founded in August 2010, is dedicated to broadening and supporting Allegheny’s commitment to be a place where we are all proud to say, “We are Allegheny!” IDEA, through our efforts and meaningful collaborations, will develop and sustain Allegheny’s capacity to appreciate and value diversity. We facilitate access, enhance equity, and strengthen inclusion through improved structures and creative initiatives intended to uphold and renew conventions that foster equal opportunity, fairness, and interaction.
By providing leadership, support, and guidance, we hope to increase our institutional capacity for self-reflection, community building, and pluralism. We work in partnership with individuals and departments across campus to promote respect and understanding. Our endeavors deepen Allegheny’s traditions of ethical, institutional, and personal engagement in all of our learning and working environments. We work directly with a number of areas (President’s Office, Dean of the College, Dean of Students, Alumni Affairs, Admissions, and many committees through a shared governance process) with the goal to integrate diversity, equity and access into our communal DNA.
IDEA welcomes a wide variety of intellectual and cultural perspectives. Our commitment to developing and maintaining an open, friendly and productive environment is reflected throughout our campus community. Diversity management is one of the highest institutional priorities, led by IDEA. We will continue to collaborate with campus programs and departments on initiatives and policies designed to assure that Allegheny recruit and retain individuals who reflect the world we live in and who strive to make it better. The contributions of every community member are vital to our mission. We believe that the further development of the College rests in our willingness to embrace all backgrounds, talents, and ideas.
We hope you will continue to support IDEA as our work unfolds and spread throughout the campus. Come back to the website frequently to learn new information.
