Michael Keeley, Professor of Communication Arts joined the Allegheny faculty in 1987. Keeley has a B.A. in Speech Communication from the Pennsylvania State University, an M.A. in Broadcast Communication from Marquette University, and an M.F.A. in Television Production from Brooklyn College.
Keeley’s primary areas of interest are documentary production, television production, and broadcast and film history. His goal is to produce socially conscious independent productions. Some of his most recent media projects include, 940 Park Avenue, a documentary on the building that was once home to the largest movie theatre in Meadville, The Conneaut Lake Museum: A Storytelling Place, a short documentary on a group of senior citizens who save an old community building from destruction and start a museum, and Drumbeat of China, a short experimental documentary that captures the frenetic energy of China as experienced by first time visitors. Keeley often involves students in every aspect of the production process in his work.
Keeley’s present courses include Modes of Film and Video Production, Visual Production I and II, Production Junior Seminar, Documentary Tradition, Acting and Directing for the Camera, and Advanced Studio Production.
