This aquifer covering the border between New Mexico and Texas supplies about 5.1 million acres of irrigated land with its 6 billion cubic meters of water pumped per year. The region supplied by this aquifer produces 12 percent of the countries corn, cotton, wheat, and sorghum supplies, as well as a significant fraction of the feeding lots for our nations cattle.
